Earning Tenderfoot
There are three types of requirements for Tenderfoot:
1) Troop meeting requirements--to earn those, do what you did for most of the requirements for Scout. Study the handbook pages, ask your Patrol Leader to give you a book test at the next troop meeting during Patrol Corners. I won't bother listing those requirements here; you know where to find them.
2) Campout requirements--these are assigned to you by your Patrol Leader, who gets his instructions when we plan the trip at the Patrol Leader's Council Meeting. Generally, you'll do these on two different campouts.
a) T-1a, b, c: the pack inspection, the tenting requirement, the Outdoor Code & Leave No Trace requirement
b) T-2a, b, c: serve as assistant cook, demonstrate a proper clean-up, explain why a patrol eats together
See the Camping Section of the Lower Rank Advancement page for more details.
3) Specials--these you depend on the Lower Rank Advancement Staff to schedule for you. They include
T-4b Poisonous plants--we run a session on that once each September and once each May or June--you must attend one of the two to earn it.
T-7a Raise, lower, fold, display the American Flag--we run this at summer camp and sometimes during troop meetings as a pull-out practice and testing program.
OTHER THINGS TO KNOW
Keep logging trips in your trip log (in back of your handbook)--that's important for earning Second and First Class.
Have you done the recruiting requirement yet? Do it SOON!
Keep logging your service time in your service log (in back of your handbook)--it's how you get T-7b.
T-6abc takes a month. Do 6a first, then exercise for 30 days, at least three days per week, keeping a log of your progress. Bring the log to show your patrol leader when you are done.
Did you bring in evidence you took LEADS at school? That gets you a requirement for Second Class.
FINISHING UP
Once you have everything done for Tenderfoot except Req 9, 10, and 11, see a member of the Lower Rank Advancement staff. We'll get you your Scoutmaster's Conference and your Board of Review. (We'll explain what a Board of Review is.)
Once you pass your Board of Review, we'll award your Tenderfoot rank patch that very troop meeting. You'll get your certification card and a pin for mom at the next court of honor. Huzzah!😀
