Almost There...!
Hello Troop 184 Families!
To use a baseball saying, we're rounding third and heading for home! We're getting close enough to start thinking of getting back to River Edge and all our families.
It's been a busy week here at Camp Aquehonga for Troop 184. On Wednesday night, Troop 184 did the evening flag ceremony at the main parade field, where we took the American flag down, along with the POW flag and the Camp Council flag. The scouts did a really good job. They looked polished and professional. It was a very proud moment. The video is posted in the Photo Gallery. Take a look.
We also took advantage of camp activities such as the AquaOlympics, the Gagaball Pit on the Sports Field, Spray Paint the Universe, the open shoots at the rifle, shotgun and archery ranges, and most importantly, the OA Ice Cream Social. Also, many of the scouts took advantage of the camp Handicraft staff offering the Fingerprinting merit badge session, which they all completed. Tonight, six scouts under the counsel of Mr. Apanich will compete in the Iron Chef event. Lots to do here at camp, and the troop has been very active.
Personally, I broke my streak of never, ever participating in a water activity and thus never taking the BSA Swim Test. On Tuesday, Mr. Apanich, Mr. O'Leary and I went to the pool for the Troop Swim time. It was a very hot and humid day and we needed the refreshment. While there, I took the Beginner Test and passed! (Don't judge me). That let us then all go down the slide, which was a lot of fun. Whee!
Tomorrow morning, as merit badges are concluding, we will begin the hard work of breaking down camp. Friday lunch is the last meal we will cook in camp, and so after that, we will break down the sheepherders to get ready for transport. We'll start taking down tarps, put Reggie the snake back in the bin, and start packing up our personal gear. By Saturday morning, there will be hardly any trace of Troop 184 having spent the past two weeks in Site 8A here at Camp Aquehonga.
We look forward to seeing families here on Saturday morning as we conclude our 2024 Summer Camp experience!
Cheers,
Ken
